ABOUT OUR REVIEWS // We love what we do! We travel often. It’s essential to stay up to date on the hotels we sell. Truth + transparency in travel is our goal, so if we don’t enjoy our stay at a hotel, we won’t write about it. If you’re reading this – the hotel below was a hit!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS // My first impression of seeing Saba Rock up close was one of awe… knowing that Hurricane Irma wiped this entire hotel right off the rock in 2017. She welcomed us with fresh, bright, colorful hues that complimented the half-a-dozen shades of turquoise seen in the surrounding waters. Not a single sign of trauma… this is a comeback story.

Small hotel Saba Rock in the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean.

Saba Rock is an island resort located in the North Sound of Virgin Gorda, in the British Virgin Islands. At only 1.5 square miles, Saba is one of the smallest islands in the BVI.

To fully understand what this place means to the BVI community, you must remember that Saba Rock is much more than a hotel. In fact, long before Saba Rock offered guests a place to sleep in its adorably chic guest rooms, it was known as the best oceanfront bar in the Caribbean. This was the place to stop for any boating adventure in the British Virgin Islands. You were promised a respite for your sealegs and a legendary good time.

Few places in the world provide the combination of superb people-watching, real-life fish tales, and delicious bites, such as Saba Rock in the British Virgin Islands.

ROOMS // With only nine rooms, you won’t find any crowds here. This isn’t the hotel to book when you want to camp out for a week. Saba Rock is a short-stay people-pleaser to book for your between days or when you want to trade your bed of waves for a stable mattress and boxspring for a night or two.

The natural decor sprinkled with nautical accents reminds you that you are very close to the sea at all times. Don’t be fooled by the simple approach of the design; the hotel boasts a few luxury perks such as Frette linens and Molton Brown bath amenities.

WHAT TO DO // What to do while you’re staying at Saba Rock in the BVI? Get on the water! If your British Virgin Islands itinerary doesn’t already include some time spent exploring by boat, we can help arrange this through our trusted partners of charter companies. Saba Rock also offers kayaking, windsurfing, snorkeling, and the newest trend popping up in the Caribbean – Windfoiling or E-foiling. Want to get under the water and explore all the rich marine life surrounding the hotel? Saba Rock in the BVI will arrange diving day trips to exciting shipwrecks and even a plane wreck or two. For land lovers looking for a little self-care, check the yoga schedule and spa services offered by the hotel.

A compact property, it’s easy to get around and explore. The best part? You’re never without a view… and not just any view, the views of the North Sound from Saba Rock are incredible. These photos are some of the best from my entire 2-week trip. The colors pop, don’t they?

Saba Rock makes for a great day trip if you are staying elsewhere in the BVI. While easier to reach from the North Sound hotels, we’ve arranged day trips for guests staying at Guana Island and Rosewood Little Dix Bay.

Saba Rock in their own words:

Coconut

“My friends, it is quite likely that after your first visit you will become Bohemian Sabarockans, incurably dependent on the charm of the island. Every attempt to leave ends in the desire to return as soon as possible.”

WHY BOOK WITH CARIBBEAN JOURNEY // The BVI are not an easy destination for DYI vacations. There are multiple transfers included to get from point A to point B, and most visitors to the British Virgin Islands prefer to island-hop, adding even more complicated logistics that should be left to a professional. While we charge a small planning fee, the cost of your travel components (hotel, air, etc.) is never more than you would pay to book directly.

FINAL THOUGHTS // I’m often asked what my favorite island is. I love every island in the Caribbean for different reasons. The BVI, and Saba Rock, in particular, are my favorites for living that boating life. Even if you are not chartering, you can really soak up the sailor life by spending time at Saba Rock. My team and I look forward to helping you plan your dream British Virgin Islands vacation! Click here to get started.
