Nobu Hotel Los Cabos
ABOUT OUR REVIEWS // We love what we do! We travel often. It’s essential to stay up to date on the hotels we sell. Truth + transparency in travel is our goal, so if we don’t enjoy our stay at a hotel, we won’t write about it. If you’re reading this – the hotel below was a hit!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS // I knew I’d adore Nobu Los Cabos even before arriving, thanks to my love for the Nobu Restaurants. This luxury resort is located in the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico and is part of the famous Nobu Hotel brand, co-founded by Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Hollywood actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. From the moment I stepped on property, the peaceful design aesthetic and sense of calm swept over me. It was the perfect place to end my 12-day Cabo adventure and get some relaxation in before heading back to the daily grind.
ROOMS //Nobu Los Cabos has 200 guest rooms and suites, all of which offer ocean views. However, at this hotel, the interior room experience outweighed the view. The rooms at Nobu Los Cabos are the perfect blend of thoughtful Japanese design and welcoming Mexican hospitality. The warm natural woods and mood lighting used in the design and decor create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The beds are positioned low to the ground, invoking a sense of ancient wisdom that’s said to improve sleep quality. The wooden Japanese soaking tub, nestled in a natural stone bathroom, was the highlight of my in-room experience. It was an absolute treat and the ideal spot to unwind after a week of hotel hopping.
WHAT TO DO // Nobu Los Cabos has a fantastic range of activities and amenities that will make your stay an unforgettable experience. However, by the end of my trip, I was pretty exhausted, so the most activity I could manage was walking back and forth between the main pool and the adult pool. Luckily, the hotel has four stunning pools to choose from – which is quite impressive for a hotel with only 200 rooms. During my three-day stay, I spent most of my time at the Cortez Pool, where a talented DJ played some chill-out music, and The Sunset Pool, a peaceful and relaxing spot reserved for adults. Renting a poolside cabana is an excellent idea for small groups of friends traveling together, and I can only imagine the fun they’ll have.
During our visit to Nobu Los Cabos in November, the hotel was almost at full occupancy, but there were still available lounge chairs around all of the pools at any hour of the day. The Cortez and Sunset Pools had different vibes – the lively energy of the Cortez Pool extended to the sand volleyball court, where there was a day-long competition. In contrast, the Sunset Pool was incredibly serene, making it the ideal spot to catch the sunset.
The hotel’s pools, including the Cortez and Sunset Pools, offer VIP poolside services and fantastic craft cocktails. We were already impressed with the restaurant’s food, but the elevated flavors of their mixology were equally remarkable!
The hotel’s restaurants are also designed with the same aesthetic that I loved about the rooms, with a focus on understated elegance and attention to detail. The famous Nobu Restaurant, in particular, exudes a sleek and sophisticated vibe, with dim lighting and modern decor that creates a chic and intimate ambiance.
Nobu Los Cabos is not an all-inclusive hotel, which sets it apart from many other hotels in Mexico. This makes it an excellent choice for food enthusiasts who want to explore the hotel’s various dining options. The hotel boasts several restaurants, including the renowned Nobu Restaurant, which serves Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine, and Malibu Farm, a farm-to-table Californian restaurant with a wide selection of fresh and healthy dishes. Of course, the star of the show is the hotel’s namesake Nobu Restaurant, which is a must-visit for any food lover.
My goal was to sample as many dishes from the Nobu menu as possible to determine if this renowned restaurant was as excellent as its standalone counterparts that I’ve visited before. However, the pool snacks were so deliciously elevated that I simply didn’t have room to try everything on my list in one sitting, which meant we had to come back for a second visit.
The Tiradito was an absolute standout dish for me, a classic Peruvian dish similar to ceviche, consisting of thinly sliced raw fish served with a tangy, spicy sauce. Honestly, every dish was exceptional, so it’s difficult to single out just one. If you haven’t experienced the Nobu dining experience yet, take this as your cue to indulge and treat yourself to a memorable meal. It’s well worth the cost.
On our way to dinner the second night, we noticed all the staff and many guests lined up, staring at the ocean. We joined in and were quickly treated to the graceful breaching of a humpback whale! During the winter months, the waters off the coast of Cabo San Lucas are a popular destination for whales migrating south to breed and give birth. The hotel can help you arrange a whale-watching tour with experienced guides who will take you out on a boat to see these majestic creatures up close. You may be able to see humpback whales, gray whales, and even orcas, among others. It’s an incredible experience and a great way to get a closer look at the natural wonders of Cabo San Lucas.
WELLNESS // The spa at Nobu Los Cabos is a spacious and luxurious facility, spanning over 13,691 square feet (1272 square meters). The spa features multiple treatment rooms, including rooms for couples, as well as saunas, steam rooms, and a plunge pool for guests to enjoy before or after their treatments. The spa’s tranquil and serene environment is designed to promote relaxation and rejuvenation, making it the perfect place to unwind and de-stress. With its extensive range of treatments and high-quality facilities, the spa at Nobu Los Cabos is a true oasis of tranquility in a luxurious setting. One of the more unique treatments they offer is acupuncture. While no longer unique in your hometown, finding a hotel with a resident acupuncturist is rare.
The Spa at Nobu Los Cabos, in their own words:
“Enter a tranquil space where simple, natural elements will captivate your senses, and where Asian-inspired traditions will ground your spirit. ”
Who is Nobu Los Cabos best for? Nobu Los Cabos is a great choice for anyone who wants to experience a luxurious and relaxing vacation with a touch of Japanese-inspired elegance and warm Mexican hospitality. This hotel is ideal for couples or groups of friends looking for a romantic or peaceful getaway. The hotel is not strictly adults only; kids are allowed. I only saw a few little ones during my visit, and I think many other hotels in Cabo are a better fit for families traveling with kids.
