Cancun’s hospitality and ease of access are what sets it apart from other tourist destinations in the country. The well-known strip of land, home to the Cancun Hotel Zone, is only 20 minutes from the airport, give or take. This makes Cancun the destination of choice for a weekend getaway or last-minute trip when a fly and flop vacation is just what the doctor ordered.

Truthfully, we aren’t huge fans of this area of Mexico. The rows of high-rise hotels lining one side of the main street and chain restaurants and malls lining the other, do not appeal to our sense of vacation. The two hotels we do recommend in Cancun proper are in a different league than their neighbors on the strip. They both combine luxury with expert hospitality in a way that only Mexico does.

Cancun is a great place to do nothing at all or let your imagination run wild with plans of exploration. Cancun is a great home base for some serious Mayan history lessons and archeological exposure.
